Rafael Sierra talks with Susie Hovey, Program Coordinator for Utah CASA. Utah CASA serves the greater Salt Lake City area, providing advocacy for children who are involved with the court system. Hovey says CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate. They’re community volunteers who stand up and speak out for abused and neglected kids. Hovey talks about how advocates gather information about the child’s school, family, caregivers and more, in order to help a judge make the best decisions for the child. Hovey says about 20% of kids have advocates so they are always in need of new volunteers. (https://www.utahcasa.org/)
