Ron Turner talks with Sarah Ponitz, Executive Director at Turning Point here in Woodstock about domestic abuse which is the willful intimidation and abusive behavior that’s part of a pattern of power and control by one intimate partner against another. Ponitz explains how it is possible to be in an abusive relationship and not know it because they are unable to recognize the signs. Ponitz describes it is usually a generational issue with the perpetrator and could include verbal abuse, financial abuse, mental abuse and more. Ponitz discusses the difference between rural verses the larger population areas throughout McHenry County saying transportation is the largest problem for rural victims. Ponitz says children are also impacted by domestic violence and can set up a pattern for them to repeat the behavior in their relations later in life. Turning Point has many services available including legal assistance through access to many attorneys serving the area. They can be contacted at (https://www.turnpt.org/)
