Brandon Lake comes out swinging — gloves off — on the stop-you-in-your-tracks “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” his latest song. Since giving fans a sneak peak of the then unreleased track during soundcheck at 2024’s “Rock the Universe” in January, Lake has repeatedly teased portions of the original on social media and performed the selection as he’s traveled over the course of the year, headlining his “Tear Off the Roof Tour,” which saw the South Carolina native sell out more than 30 arenas nationwide. Additionally, concertgoers lucky enough to catch him in their city alongside Phil Wickham on this year’s “Summer Worship Nights” outing were also among the first to hear “Hard Fought Hallelujah” before it received the full studio treatment. Much to the delight of listeners, Lake finally dropped an official recording of the track in November, proving that good things are indeed worth the wait.

Nearly a year in the making, the soulful R&B, electric guitar-led selection showcases the hitmaker’s signature growl. Backed by a well-placed Gospel choir, Lake delivers a raw vocal across some of his most vulnerable lyrics to date. Calling the new offering “the most honest song I’ve ever written,” Lake pulls no punches as he wrestles with the devil throughout the gritty anthem filled with the kind of relatable tension that permeates the human experience.

Following the first iteration, the father of three has released half a dozen variations of the song, including an instrumental version and the original demo he wrote with Steven Furtick and Benjamin William Hastings. Already a five-time GRAMMY® winner, the “That’s Who I Praise” singer recently notched his 11th and 12th GRAMMY® nominations, respectively, for his co-writing contributions on Elevation Worship’s “Praise” and for his acclaimed studio album, “Coat of Many Colors.”
