Backed by bluesy electric guitar, jangly piano and a soulful choir, Brandon Lake goes Gospel on “God Is Not Against Me,” a standout track from his third full-length LP, “Coat of Many Colors.” Outside of the unforgettable electric guitar solo, the song’s most memorable moment lies in the second verse, where Lake showcases the pinnacle of his vocal range, singing several octaves above his normal gritty register.

“I have a new revelation, a Savior who calls me His friend. I used to fight on my own, but never again,” he confesses in a chill-inducing tenor. “I have a power that’s greater than all of the enemy’s lies. And I know the truth of the Gospel, that You’re on my side. You’re on my side.”
The song reiterates the truth that God is always working and always moving on our behalf. It also affirms His constant presence and provision in the lives of each of His children. Lake co-wrote the expressive original with Steven Furtick, Chris Davenport and Pat Barrett.
“God Is Not Against Me” was inspired by the familiar passage of Scripture found in Romans 8:31: “What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?”

With its R&B-flavored, Gospel choir leanings, the fresh selection further pushes the boundaries of Lake’s limitless sonic trajectory, which seems to know no bounds. A new version of the song is also set to appear on Elevation Worship’s forthcoming live project, “When Wind Meets Fire,” slated to bow July 12.
The five-time GRAMMY® winner will join friend and frequent collaborator Phil Wickham on the 2024 edition of the pair’s popular “Summer Worship Nights” tour this August. Afterwards, Lake will resume his headlining “Tear Off The Roof Tour,” with special guest Benjamin William Hastings, this fall.
