8 Prayers to Seek God in Worship

Every human is created to worship. Ecclesiastes 3:11, we are told that "He has planted eternity in the human heart." God has planted an awareness of the presence of God in our lives and the universe. See, we all have the knowledge of God existing. However, not everyone chooses to worship God. To worship simply means to ascribe worth to something or someone. To worship is to give ourselves to someone or something. Who are we honoring? Who are we giving ourselves to? Below are eight prayers for fulfilling our purpose to worship.

1. And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him. - Romans 12:1 NLT

Father, as I consider all that You have done for me, I stand in awe and gratitude. Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the cross to forgive my sins. I choose to offer my body as a living sacrifice. For this is true worship, entirely giving myself to You. May I honor You with my body and worship You in all I do. I give You my hands, my mind, and my entire self. Use me, Lord, and help me to be sensitive to Your voice as You lead me. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

2. "And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength." - Mark 12:30 NLT

Lord, I submit my will, mind, and heart to You. My desire is to worship You in every area of my life. Teach me how to worship You with my mind. As I fill my mind with the truth of Your Word, may my thoughts honor You. You have called me to set my heart and mind on things above, not earthly things. My desire is to live with an eternal perspective. Today, I choose to meditate on Your goodness and faithfulness. I will choose to remember and thank You for all that You have done for me. This is my act of worship. I also submit my emotions to You. Even when I don't feel Your presence, teach me to cling to Your promises, not my feelings. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

3. Everything on earth will worship You, they will sing Your praises, shouting Your name in glorious songs. - Psalm 66:4 NLT

Lord, I often forget how big You are, yet You allow me to worship You daily. May I never take this lightly. Your word says that everything on earth will worship You. As I read Your bible, it gives me a deeper understanding of how majestic You are. I pray this will lead to worship, awe, and reverence in my life. May I never lose the wonder of knowing You intimately. Today, I choose to lift my voice to You and worship You through song. May I also be aware of the beauty around me, leading me to a place of worship and gratitude. In Jesus' name. Amen.

4. Worship the LORD in all His holy splendor. Let all the earth tremble before Him. - Psalm 96:9 NLT

Father, I acknowledge You are a holy God, set apart and worthy to be worshipped. All praise belongs to You and You alone. You do not share Your glory with anyone. For You alone deserve to be honored. As I grow in my understanding of Your character, let this lead me to worship You with my whole heart. You deserve my all, Lord. Every area of my life belongs to You. In days where I struggle to realize how set apart and holy You are, remind me of Your power and Your holiness. Forgive me for all the times I've taken Your name lightly. The earth trembles before You. Father, You are great and mighty. I acknowledge this and choose to worship You now. In Jesus' name. Amen.

5. Instead you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. - 1 Peter 3:15 NLT

Lord, You are calling me to worship You as Lord of my life. You want all of me. Teach me to submit every area of my life to You. I long to relinquish control and acknowledge that I cannot do this alone. I ask for Your help, trusting You will strengthen me to let go and allow You to lead me. Forgive me for all the times I've trusted my abilities instead of Yours. You are the master of my life. Lead me and teach me to trust in Your wisdom. Jesus, You are not an add-on in my life. You are the Lord of my life. This is my act of worship. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

6. Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. - Romans 12:2 NLT

Father, I choose to worship You as the Creator. While the world worships creation, You are calling me to worship You, not the things of this world. Be the lover of my soul. Reveal what is competing with You in my heart. My desire is to give You my all, not a half-hearted commitment. Renew my mind by changing the way I think. I pray for victory in my thought life. As You renew my mind, help me to discern Your will for my life and give me the boldness to be obedient to where You are leading me. You have set me apart. Help me to live a life that is set apart for You. This is my act of worship. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

7. For we who worship by the Spirit of God. We rely on what Christ Jesus has done for us. We put no confidence in human effort. - Philippians 3:3 NLT

Dear Heavenly Father, let Your Spirit guide me as I worship You with my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Apart from You, I am nothing, Lord. My confidence and hope are in You. I rely on the finished work of the cross. It is because of the blood of Jesus that I can worship. You have given me access to Your presence. I enter boldly and humbly into Your presence Lord. Thank You for making a way to join Your company. In You, there is fullness of joy. There is life and peace in Your presence. My heart rejoices, Lord. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

8. All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. - Acts 2:42 NLT

Lord, You have called me to worship with my brothers and sisters in Christ. Help me to see the importance of being rooted in a Christ-centered church. As I devote myself to teaching Your Word, fellowship, prayer, and sharing meals, transform me into the image of Your Son. Let hospitality and generosity mark my life. When I am tempted to isolate, help me resist and see the value of growing in the community context. You are calling me to a communal experience. One that will stretch me to grow and walk in vulnerability. Teach me to walk in the light. Give me a desire to serve Your people. This is my act of worship. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
