8 Prayers for Difficult Decisions

One blessing of our relationship with Jesus is the opportunity to go to the Father in prayer and receive help in times of confusion, doubt, and decision. He is all-knowing and will always carry the proper perspective of our life circumstances. What a relief to know the one who sees the end from the beginning is capable of guiding and leading us the right way. He promises to provide us with the wisdom we need. All we must do is ask. James 1:8 NLT tells us, "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. he will not rebuke you for asking."

Here are eight prayers to help you surrender your decision-making process to the Lord and receive the help you need.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. - Proverbs 3:5-6

Father- I come to you in need of understanding and direction. I know that where I am lacking, you are overflowing with provision. Today, I need your guidance and your leadership. You see the decision before me and know which path is best. Help me to be confident in your plan for me.   Help me be bold in my dependence on your word and counsel. Open my eyes to see which path to take. In Jesus' Name –Amen.

Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. - Colossians 3: 16-17

Lord, I ask you to help me make decisions that reflect the message of Christ. Help me receive the wisdom and counsel of other believers and understand that my decisions are an opportunity to glorify You. I ask you to connect me with the right people who will help me honor you in this decision process. Help me receive your word as the standard of truth and submit to it. Let my decisions reflect the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I know your love for me is rich. Help me represent your love to those around me and appreciate your care for me. Thank you, Father, for providing for me in this area of my life. In Jesus' Name- Amen.

The LORD says, 'I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.' - Psalm 32:8

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your guidance and Your advice. I commit to rely on the leadership of your Holy Spirit and the confirming presence of Your peace. Thank you for keeping a protective, watchful eye over me. I ask You to help me remain confident in the safety of Your will. Help me remember that I am never alone in my decisions and that you are faithful to your promises. It is Your plan, your way, Your path that will lead me to life. I receive Your counsel and pray for courage to stay under Your wing in Jesus' Name.

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. - 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Thank you, Lord, for your inspired word! I recognize that my best decisions will be made with the counsel of your wisdom in view. Help me respond with humility and a heart to obey. Help me to recognize where I am wrong. I ask you for the presence of my mind to align my actions and thoughts with the scriptures. Teach me to do what is right. I ask you to help me understand what I read, learn from your word, and believe it. Help me to maintain a discipline of consulting and reading scripture. Lead me to the passages that speak to my decision and show me which way to go. I receive your word as accurate for me- In Jesus' Name.

For the LORD grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. - Proverbs 2:6-7

Heavenly Father, thank you for the treasure of common sense. Help me be honest about my expectations and desires as I consider this matter. Align my heart's desires with your will for my life. Help me to think first and then respond based on your word. Help me utilize my skills, gifts, and knowledge to make decisions that honor you. Let your Holy Spirit help me to continue to walk in integrity and uphold your expectations of me in this decision. Thank you for being a shield to me and those around me that walk-in integrity. In Jesus' Name.

But don't begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it? - Luke 14:28

Heavenly Father, help me to count the cost of the decision I am facing. Show me with clarity the pros and cons of the choices before me. Give me the wisdom to steward my time and resources well. Send me the counsel and insight I need to correctly estimate how this decision will impact my life. I seek you early in this process and ask you to protect me from a wrong choice. I submit this process to you before I even start. Help me make a mutually beneficial decision that reflects your plan for my life in Jesus' Name.

Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you. - Psalm 37:5

Heavenly Father, I commit this decision to you. I release control of the outcome to you. Help me to invest my time and energy according to your will for my life. Show me where I need additional support and counsel. I trust this entire situation to you. You are the Lord of my life, and I am thankful for your commitment to helping me. I submit to your word and receive your direction. I will trust the peace you have provided for me through prayer and patience. I will wait for help that comes from you and know that your timing is always right. Thank you, Lord, for providing for me in this way. In Jesus' Name.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. - Matthew 6:33

God, you are a good and gracious father. You are eager to give me the wisdom, strength, understanding, insight, and perspective I need to make the right choice. I will seek you early and consistently throughout this process and consider your word even before my research or experience. You are trustworthy and true. I trust you as the source of everything I need. I will live in the light of your word and allow it to guide and provide for me along the way, in Jesus' Name.
