At one time or another, we all face change in our lives. While sometimes we know and can prepare for change, most often, change is unexpected and can catch us off guard. It’s easy and understandable to feel overwhelmed when this happens. The good news is that we have a Great King we can turn to who is never surprised about the valley of unforeseen change. We hope you feel encouraged and equipped as you read these 8 prayers for navigating through the unexpected things happening in your life.
1. From the ends of the earth, I cry to You for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety, 3 for You are my safe refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me. – Psalm 61:2-3 NLT
Lord, the change I’m going through right now is overwhelming. When I’m anxious, confused, and angry with unexpected change, help me lean on You for comfort and support. I know You are a safe place for me to rest and trust in. In Jesus’ name, amen.
2. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. – Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT
Father, You know which direction my life is headed. Guide my path and heart as I continue to trust You through this change in my life. While I don’t understand what You’re doing right now, help me depend on You as I navigate this unplanned change. In Jesus’ name, amen.
3. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you. – Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT
Lord, I’m fearful of the future right now. I know You are good through this change, but I admit that I need to be reminded of this often. Even though I feel discouraged, assure me that You have already gone ahead of me in this situation. Help me overcome this feeling of discouragement. I trust You won’t ever fail me. In Your name, amen.
4. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them. – Romans 8:28 NLT
God, I know You are working everything out for my good and causing me to look more like Your Son, even in this situation. Though the changes leave me confused and scared at times, help me have confidence that You know exactly what You’re doing through all this. In Jesus’ name, amen.
5. This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 18 And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to Himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to Him. – 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 NLT
God, I’m so thankful You have changed me and saved me. While it’s difficult to sometimes see, help me understand that change is not always bad; in fact, it can be a great gift. Thank You for sending Jesus to save me from my old ways. May I remember the transformation You’ve made in my life and heart as I continue to navigate through this season of change I’m currently walking through. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
6. For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. – Ecclesiastes 3:1 NLT
Lord, this change is totally unexpected, and I admit, I’m definitely caught off guard. I know change is inevitable, and there’s a time and season for everything, but this is still challenging for me to navigate through. Even still, I believe You know what You’re doing and are never caught off guard. Jesus, You are still on the throne in paradise now and I trust that You are always leading me faithfully. Amen.
7. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. – Hebrews 13:8 NLT
Heavenly Father, You are faithful. While everything around me changes quickly, I know You always remain the same. Your Word never changes and provides the stability I need to triumph in Christ through this unexpected time. Thank You for Your goodness and faithfulness through it all. In Jesus’ name, amen.
8. That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. – 2 Corinthians 4:16,18 NLT
Lord God, I praise You for being there for me through this change. I’m encouraged and empowered knowing this change is only temporary, and You are renewing me daily. As I strive to not focus on the chaos around me and to look to Jesus, help me never give up and trust You always. I pray all this in Jesus’ name, amen.
