Life can be difficult. At times it can seem like the struggles of life come in waves, one right after another. And if you’ve ever swam in an ocean, you know the waves can cause fatigue and exhaustion because you are using so much energy and strength to fight them. With the help of the Lord, we can develop spiritual resilience to withstand the waves of struggle that try to wear us down. Below are 8 prayers to help you build long-lasting spiritual resilience to remain standing amid the trials and hardships of life.
1. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. – Philippians 4:13 NLT
Lord, I feel as though I am drowning. Recently, life has seemed so challenging, and I’m having a hard time staying grounded in You. Father, remind me that I am capable of overcoming this because of You. You are my strength. In Jesus’ name, amen.
2. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. – James 1:4 NLT
Father, it’s hard for me to see the difficult things I’m going through in life as beneficial or for my good. Please help me to keep in mind that as I walk through difficult things, it’s developing endurance and a deeper dependence on You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
3. The righteous keep moving forward, and those with clean hands become stronger and stronger. – Job 17:9 NLT
Lord, when I come up against something discouraging, give me the strength to keep moving forward. It can be so hard to keep pushing on and to stay encouraged. Help me to become stronger and stronger as You lead me through the challenges that I face. And remind me I am not alone. In Your name, amen.
4. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up in honor. – James 4:10 NLT
Lord, as You lead me into victory, help me to maintain a heart posture of humility, knowing I cannot do this without You. It is easy to think that I am the reason for my success, and I want to make sure I don’t fall into that trap. Remind me, Father, my true strength comes from You alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.
5. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7 NLT
Father, it can be so tempting for me to complain when I go through difficult circumstances. Help me to instead pray about the struggles I am facing and to understand that by doing so, You will help me develop genuine spiritual resilience. In Jesus’ powerful name, amen.
6. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. – 1 Peter 1:7 NLT
God, trials, according to Your Word, will show the authenticity of my faith. As I fight through challenging situations, please give me a fresh perspective. Let me see it as a chance for my faith to become stronger so you will get all the glory from my life. I praise You and thank You for purifying me for Jesus’ glory. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
7. “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in Me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33 NLT

8. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble and keep on praying. – Roman 12:12 NLT
Heavenly Father, when times are hard, I can feel like giving up because of the darkness in the world. I pray all these things in Jesus’ name, amen.
