Five Prayers for the Election

The large signs go up and the campaign ads begin as we all brace for another election season.  The intensity mounts as the polls offer projections while anticipating the ultimate results.  The beauty of being a Christian is we already know the results.  If you feel overwhelmed by the election, we have some principles and prayers to help remind you of the greatest victory and most impactful circumstance in your life.

5 Principles for Election Season

  1. Focus on What Matters: While election results can affect your life, they don’t determine your eternal future. Remember, Jesus elected to go to the cross for us, and we can celebrate that He is King, no matter the election outcome.
  2. Follow His Example: Remember that Jesus, the King of Kings, subjected Himself to the authority of a godless ruler knowing that His Kingdom was not of this world.
  3. Trust God is Listening: If you feel like your voice is not being heard, remember that your voice is heard by the ultimate authority.  Let God hear your heart, your concerns, your frustrations and trust Him with it.  It is not a surprise to Him and He is still in control.
  4. Practice Listening: Even if others do not, follow the wisdom of James 1:19, “Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.”
  5. Vote with Perspective: Although casting your vote is very important and has the potential to impact lives, remember that Jesus is the only One who has the power to transform hearts and souls.  Jesus can produce the change in people that you are seeking at the ballot box.
