8 Prayers for Wisdom

What is Wisdom? Wisdom doesn’t mean you are the most intelligent person in the room. The bible defines wisdom simply as the proper application of knowledge at the right time. While this does include choices of right and wrong, on a broader level, it’s the ability to make subjective life decisions such as should I take this job? Should I marry this person? Wisdom needs to become a part of who we are and not just a situational tool. Making wisdom a part of yourself is only possible by intimately getting to know the author of wisdom. God invites us to learn wisdom by getting to know him better. The following prayers are an invitation to know and enter wisdom personally.

“Father, I believe you want to give me your wisdom. You would never withhold it when I ask because you are so generous. Thank you for providing me with an understanding beyond my limited thoughts. Point me in your way, leading and directing me specifically with your insight.”

GOD GENEROUSLY GIVES WISDOM!

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you.

– James 1:5 (NLT)

“God, I choose to build my life on the foundation of the fear, reverence, and respect of you. By faith in Jesus, I’ve been given direct access to your wisdom. Empower me to make wise choices before your eyes. Give me sound judgment to walk out decisions that line up with your wisdom.”

WISDOM BEGINS WITH REVERENCE!

Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.

– Proverbs 9:10 (NLT)

“God, I’m desperate for your insight. I cry out to you, knowing you’re faithful to respond to my requests. I don’t fully understand, but I’m confident that you do. My ears are tuned in, and my heart submits to you. Please, oh God, give me your perspective; help me understand your will for my life.”

FINE-TUNING OUR EARS!

Tune your ears to wisdom and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight and ask for understanding.

– Proverbs 2:2–3 (NLT)

“Jesus, you modeled a lifestyle of flawless wisdom. You’ve given me the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, empowering me to live like you. Display your wisdom through me; let the evidence be in an honorable lifestyle of humility. Produce in me the good things you’ve designed me to walk in.”

WISDOM AS A LIFESTYLE!

If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.

 – James 3:13 (NLT)

“Thank you for the gift of self-control your Spirit provides me. I know this is how you keep and protect me from foolishness. Help me control what goes in and out of my mouth. Help me point my feet in the right direction, to think straight, and watch my eyes.”

WISDOM OF SELF-CONTROL!

A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.

– Proverbs 25:28 (NLT)

“God give me the wisdom to walk with key people who influence me towards you. Provide that deep fellowship with friends who build up and don’t tear down. Keep me from walking in foolishness that would set me off course. Help me recognize when the wrong voices are influencing me.”

WISDOM FINDS GOOD PARTNERSHIPS!

Stay away from fools, for you won’t find knowledge on their lips.

 – Proverbs 14:7 (NLT)

“Lord, Grant me unmixed wisdom that comes from heaven. First, produce in me a gentle, humble heart. Then, help me walk it out sincerely by rejecting favoritism and showing people mercy. I know this isn’t wisdom naturally found in this world, but it’s powerful, practical, and found only in your word.”

HEAVEN’S WISDOM IS PURE!

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.

– James 3:17 (NLT)

“Father, teach me your ways of wisdom, lead me in straight paths. Please give me the grace to listen closely to every word you say. My heart is to do as you say; help me to obey. Bless me, for your glory with this wisdom to live a long, good life.”

A LONG GOOD LIFE!

My child, listen to me and do as I say, and you will have a long, good life. I will teach you wisdom’s ways and lead you in straight paths.
