7 Songs to Remind You of God

February is aflutter with all kinds of heartfelt feelings. Aisles brim with flowers, cards and candy — red and pink reminders that we are meant to love and be loved. Ultimately, we only have the ability to love others because Jesus loved us first (1 John 4:19). Amidst the pastel-colored hearts and bouquets of roses, you can take great joy and comfort in the fact that our Heavenly Father delights in you more than you can even fathom. Regardless of your relationship status come Feb. 14, love is still worth celebrating. And there are countless worship artists making music that attests to this fact. Here are seven songs to remind you of God’s love this Valentine’s Day.

“Here I Am,” JWLKRS Worship (feat. Ashley Hess)

First-time GRAMMY®-nominated act JWLKRS Worship enlists “American Idol” alum Ashley Hess for “Here I Am,” the title-cut of the collective’s debut EP. A song of surrender, “Here I Am” quiets the noise and stills our hurried hearts across a poignant ballad introed and outroed by an arresting piano melody that’s the real star of the original offering. In the midst of hustle culture, JWLKRS Worship and Hess take time to stop and intentionally declare their unwavering allegiance to Jesus, pledging to follow Him no matter what. A cry for joy and an act of trust, “Here I Am” pulls the focus off our circumstances and puts it squarely on a God who is bigger than whatever we might be facing in the moment.

“Come Into the Light,” TAYA

TAYA speaks to our secret fears on “Come Into the Light.” For those shackled by shame or hidden in the depths of disappointment, the crescendoing ballad beckons us all into a transformational encounter with a Savior who is nothing if not kind, loving and gentle. The Australian native’s vocal is intimate and raw on the original, which immediately draws listeners in with relatable lyrics and a warm invitation. “This song comes from a place of desperation, surrender and an honest conversation. Maybe like me, you’ve walked with Jesus for a little while; and perhaps, there have been altar call moments in church services, worship nights, gatherings, etc., where you felt you needed to respond, but you let pride keep you in your seat,” the powerful vocalist offers. “May these minutes afford you another chance to respond to Jesus wherever you find yourself listening.”

“Time,” Aodhán King (feat. Lauren Daigle)

Aodhán King and Lauren Daigle blend their voices on exquisite new song “Time,” which speaks to God’s perfect plan and the timeline He establishes for each of our lives. The former Young & Free member and the multi-GRAMMY® winner originally wrote the breezy track for Daigle’s self-titled double album more than two-and-a-half years ago. The initial idea came to fruition when the “You Say” singer was on the beach reading Ecclesiastes 3:11. She took the Scripture passage and her thoughts into a co-write with King, who came up with the piano part, but the songstress never cut it. King, however, dusted off the stunning selection and recorded it for his recent solo debut, “Beyond Us,” reminding us God makes everything beautiful in its time.

“i need you more,” Josiah Queen (feat. Henrik)

Josiah Queen and Henrik harnessed their complementary folk-pop stylings to create “i need you more.” The meandering acoustic-driven original reverberates with the kind of heartbreak required to unlock true beauty found only in surrender. The single notes our desperate need for God as we strive to do things in our own strength. Verse two, in particular, also addresses how technology keeps us isolated and offers a prayer for more community and less loneliness — a bold statement coming from a pair of 20-somethings. The two rising artists penned the haunting stomp-clap track with Jared Condon. Queen will, no doubt, be sharing the standout on his “My Promised Land Tour” this spring.

“Constant,” Maverick City Music (feat. Chandler Moore, Jordin Sparks and Anthony Gargiula)

Joining forces under a shared banner of faith, Chandler Moore, Jordin Sparks and Anthony Gargiula form the trio we didn’t know we needed on Maverick City Music’s new single, “Constant.” A crossroads of different genres, styles and backgrounds, “Constant” continues to cement Maverick City Music’s mission to showcase a well of diverse talent and introduce listeners to artists beyond their traditional playlists. The inspirational piano ballad speaks to the strength found in perseverance when we place our hope in the faithfulness of Jesus. Ebbing and flowing on a metaphor rooted in storm and sea imagery, “Constant” rolls onto shore with the assurance that we are held by our Creator, who is trustworthy, unyielding and good. Offering peace in the tempest, “Constant” is a refuge for the weary soul or anyone who has given up in the midst of trial.

“Making Room,” Tauren Wells

Tauren Wells clears space for God to move on his latest single, “Making Room.” The husband, father and pastor is expectant for what God will do on the original ballad he penned with songwriter/producer Jordan Sapp. He might not know the how or the when of his breakthrough, but he is preparing his heart for God to orchestrate the miraculous. The freshly minted track honors the transformation that can take place when we allow ourselves to abide in the presence of the Lord. “We don’t need to have all the answers or be perfect,” Wells says in regard to the song’s message. “We just need to be open and available for what He wants to do in our lives.” The lyrically poignant selection offers the first taste of the Platinum-selling singer’s next studio project.

“No One Like the Lord,” Jenn Johnson

Revered lyricist, vocalist and worship leader Jenn Johnson helms an extraordinary moment of worship on her new song, “No One Like the Lord.” The slow-burning live recording starts with simple guitar and strings and builds to a holy crescendo as Johnson paints a picture of what eternity might look like, while exalting the only One worthy of our unending praise. Her combined passion, grit and reverence make way for a regal coronation, led by her signature alto. Since releasing it last summer, Johnson has been performing “No One Like the Lord” on stages across the country to wild acclaim. “When I first heard this song, I fell in love with it,” she shares of the track originally crafted by Lindy Cofer & The Circuit Riders. “It feels like a song we will sing in heaven...and those are my favorite songs — eternal, singing of the glory, majesty and splendor of God.”
