Together with her friends, Jacob Sooter and Lauren Sloat, Hope Darst wrote “Mighty Name of Jesus” for her local church in Nashville. Darst has now been leading the song for the better part of a year at The Belonging Co., with whom she originally recorded a version for the collective’s latest live project, “Eden.” Meanwhile, Darst re-recorded her own iteration for her first-ever live worship album, “In the Mighty Name.”
The prayerful declaration calls on the power and protection of God over every facet of our lives and the people we love. With vivid lyrics that evoke biblical imagery, Darst and her co-writers rooted themselves in the truth of Isaiah 54:17.
“I’ll never forget the day we wrote it. We were hunting for a song that felt like a prayer for the body of believers to be able to sing and confess over their lives. We pulled so much Scripture from the story of Passover in the Old Testament, and I think it still holds true today that ‘no weapon formed against us shall prosper,’” Darst shares, quoting the anchoring Scripture verse. “This song is so special to me — it’s a reminder of the strength and power we have in His name… There is power, healing and victory in the mighty name of Jesus! Declare it over your life, your family and every situation.”
The slow burn of “Mighty Name of Jesus” is a subtle reminder that our prayers, in and of themselves, are meaningless without a waiting Savior willing to listen and answer. It’s the One we’re praying to and the name we’re praying in that makes all the difference.
With her warm, commanding vocal, Darst authoritatively speaks to the fear and darkness that attempts to extinguish the light of Christ that lives within the heart of every believer. As a mother of two, herself, it’s especially relatable to hear her deliver one of the single’s strongest lines: “I draw a permanent boundary line. The enemy has no rights to come near my family. No scheme could ever undo God’s plans. No matter the circumstance, the cross has sealed my destiny.”
The singer, songwriter and seasoned worship leader released her debut collection, “Peace Be Still,” in 2020, followed by her seven-song sophomore effort, “If the Lord Builds the House.”
Darst is scheduled to appear on select dates of FOUND Collective throughout 2025.
