We were all dead in our sin before Jesus came into our lives. There was no happy ending, and no real story to be told that would ever mean anything in the grand scheme of things. But in the moment that we accepted Jesus’ gift of salvation, a new story began. Because of His great sacrifice for us, our stories will go on forever, and they will be led by the king of the eternal kingdom. In “Goodness Gracious,” SONS THE BAND reminds us of how great a gift Jesus gave us by taking our place on the cross. The song’s energy quickly kicks up, as SONS THE BAND declares God’s faithfulness and love in the midst of our weakness. This song carries a unique blend of classic worship sounds, along with a rocking, country energy that is infectious.
God’s best plans tend to work in very different ways than we might expect. For Jesus to save the world, and become the highest, most exalted king of all time, He first had to be humiliated and battered on the cross. Though we might be going through some difficult times, we too will reach the heights of glory that our Father has waiting for us. God’s ways may not always make sense to us in the moment, but in the end, we will be more satisfied with God’s amazing ending to our story than anything we could have come up with.

“Goodness Gracious” was released as a single in July 2023. Steve Davis and Jordan Colle, the founders of SONS THE BAND, share the main intentions behind their music. “The heart of SONS has always been to write songs for the church, and that no matter what tempo or energy the song has, that there is always a rich truth to them. We hope that those truths find a way into people’s lives by worshipping along with the songs, but we also really just hope that even the unchurched or de-churched would just enjoy the music we write.”
