"The Lord is my Shepherd
He goes before me
Defender behind me
I won't fear"
Through some seasons in life, we are blessed to walk side-by-side with faithful companions that can keep us steady when we stumble, but there are some roads that God asks us to walk alone. For all the time that we spend journeying alongside our trusted partners, there will be some trials that we must face on our own. In these seasons of solitary testing, however, we are never truly alone. In “Psalm 23 (I Am Not Alone),” Phil King & Meredith Andrews remind us that God is always there to pick us up when we fall, even in those moments when we feel abandoned by everyone else.

“Psalm 23 (I Am Not Alone)” opens with a sweet piano melody, as King begins reciting the 23rd Psalm. King’s verse declares that God will clear the way before us, and defend us as we follow His way. Andrews’ voice joins into the song, declaring that even in the darkest depths, the Lord always guides us and keeps us close to His side. This moving ballad’s worship-rock sound projects a sense of assurance in God’s companionship like never before.
Life throws many challenges our way, and some of the most difficult seasons we face can make us feel like we have been forgotten by our friends, our family, or even our God. In these moments, we need to remember that our feelings can often be deceptive. Though we may not feel like God is near, that does not change the truth that He will always be the friend who stays closer than a brother. He has promised to never leave us or forsake us. In those times when we need a friend, we need to keep this truth close to our hearts.
“He always guides me
Through mountains and valleys
His joy is refreshing
He restores my soul”
“Psalm 23 (I Am Not Alone)” was released as a single in April 2023. Meredith Andrews describes the value of music in her daily life. “If I just turn on worship music, or if I just start singing out scripture or singing out things that are true about God, it reminds me [that] this isn’t all there is. And actually, the greater reality is beyond what I see with my physical eyes. That’s why I sing, you know, because it just changes my perspective. It reminds me of who God is and who I am with Him.”
