Part prayer, part plea, Maverick City Music’s poignant piano-led selection, “YET,” is a beautiful reminder that God will never give up on us. The crescendoing ballad features “American Idol” alum Ashley Hess and her band, the King will come, singing alongside Maverick City’s Chandler Moore.

Hess wrote the bones of the single after falling to her knees and crying out to God in the middle of one of the most painful seasons of her life when she felt unworthy and broken beyond repair. “‘YET’ is a song I never thought I’d release because it felt too personal and raw. I was so afraid for people to have a front row seat to my wrestle with the Lord, but so much healing has come from sharing my story,” Hess reflects, adding, “The deepest insecurity in your life often reveals something about the assignment and purpose God has given you.”
While the vulnerable verses put language to our heart’s deepest longings, the bridge is affirmation of the unparalleled grace of Jesus as Hess and Moore sing:
"His grace will never run out
There’s enough to go round and round
His love’s an ocean where your shame is drowned
If you know what He knows, then you know
He won’t give up on you"
“YET (feat. Ashley Hess & the King will come)” appears on the GRAMMY®-nominated album, “The Maverick Way COMPLETE.” The string-laden, choir-assisted confession showcases a palpable tension that’s felt deeply throughout the emotive performance, as the vocalists seek to find God’s purpose and plan in the midst of confusion, shame and disappointment.

Hess is likely a new voice to many Christian music listeners. The California-born singer and songwriter competed on Season 17 of “American Idol,” making it to the Top 15. Following a stint in Nashville, the West Coast native now resides in New York, where she’s simultaneously pursuing a solo career in pop music, as well as carving a unique professional path in Christian music with worship band the King will come and collaborations with the likes of Maverick City Music. Her full-length debut, “STAGES” — comprised of 10 tracks all co-written by Hess — released last fall, showcasing her lyrical prowess, fragile vocal and melodic pop sensibilities.
In addition to recording powerful declaration, “YET,” Hess and Maverick City Music have previously toured together.
Maverick City Music is set to appear at Air1’s 2nd annual “Worship Now Live At Red Rocks” event happening Aug. 5, 2024. In addition to the award-winning collective, CAIN and Thrive Worship are also slated to perform as part of this year’s highly anticipated multi-artist lineup.
