New Song Feature: "Thank You Jesus" Josh Baldwin

Josh Baldwin says “Thank You Jesus” is his favorite song from his new live album, “Made For More.” “I promise, I’m not just saying that. I don’t say that about all of them,” he quips, adding that the record’s title-cut is also one of his top picks.

Regardless of how high “Thank You Jesus” ranks on Baldwin’s list, listeners will appreciate the easy ballad from the prolific songwriter and worship leader.

“‘Thank You Jesus’ is very special to me. I wanted a song that was simple and just talked about why I love the Lord,” Baldwin shares. “I love this song. I love leading it. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of singing it, because it’s such a good reminder of who the Lord is. I have so many reasons to be thankful, so many reasons to be grateful. I have so many reasons to worship. I hope it blesses you. I hope it shifts the atmosphere in your car, in your home, in your church — wherever you’re singing it, wherever you’re listening to it. I hope it just changes the atmosphere around you.”

The song’s three distinct verses build on three specific pillars of faith, giving praise to the Lord for finding us, saving us and loving us. The initial verse recalls the story in the Bible where the faithful shepherd leaves his flock of 99 sheep to seek out the one lost sheep — a metaphor for the great lengths God will go to find us. The second verse focuses on Christ’s death on the cross that saves us; and the final verse hones in on the Father’s great love for us.

Meanwhile, the bridge comes straight from Psalm 100:4: “Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.”

An acoustic-led anthem of gratitude, “Thank You Jesus” is a highlight of the North Carolina native’s setlist as he co-headlines his current tour with “Every Hour” collaborator David Leonard. Baldwin and Leonard will reunite once more this summer for a handful of special “Backyard Picnic” dates with Zach Williams. Moreover, this fall, Baldwin will visit half a dozen Canadian markets serving as direct support for worship nights with Phil Wickham.
