Brandon Lake shares a deeply personal story on his new song, “Miracle Child.” The autobiographical single was inspired by his own mother, who struggled with recurring pregnancy loss before she gave birth to Lake and his two siblings. Throughout her painful journey toward motherhood, his mom chose to trust God’s timing and believe in the bigger plan He had for her life and the lives of her future children.

“I’m thankful my mom trusted God and persevered, because of that I am alive. My parents experienced six miscarriages, and that’s why I can say confidently today that I am a ‘miracle child,’” Lake offers. “I wrote this song from that place. I pray it gives you faith to know that nothing is impossible for God.”
“I shouldn’t be alive,” the singer attests on the arresting first line. “My future was six feet under.”
While the initial verse reveals Lake’s miraculous birth and his mother’s answered prayer in the form of her three rainbow babies, the second verse takes it a step further, asserting that Jesus shouldn’t be alive either. Yet, by His supernatural strength, He rose from the grave. And now, He’s alive in us.
With a winning combination of strings and acoustic guitar, the musical bed for “Miracle Child” borrows some sonic cues from the melodic foundation of “Gratitude” as the track builds with each refrain. Lyrically, the song’s chorus is rooted in 1 Corinthians 15:55-56: “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power.”
For the official music video for “Miracle Child,” the three-time K-LOVE Fan Award winner gathered real-life stories from fans resulting in a visual that boasts of God’s wonder-working abilities.
“Miracle Child” is one of 16 original selections on Lake’s latest album, “Coat of Many Colors.” In support of the project, the “Praise You Anywhere” singer is currently headlining the 20-city “Tear Off The Roof Tour” with special guests DOE and Jon Foreman.
