“Tonight is a really, really cool way to be a very, very small part of The Voice,”
“Tonight is a really, really cool way to be a very, very small part of The Voice,” Brandon Lake said in an Instagram video he shared following this week’s episode of The Voice.
The Voice contestant, Bodie, gave a soul-filled performance of one of Lake’s leading songs, Gratitude. His rendition complete with gospel-choir, sparklers, and dramatic lighting took place during the Top 5 performances. (see the performance below)
In Lake’s video, he can be seen watching Bodie’s performance on his TV while dancing and singing along. Following the performance, a clearly moved Lake addressed the camera and shared how some of his own story involved a potential experience with The Voice in the past.
Lake shared that his wife, Brittany, signed him up for The Voice. Following the submission, The Voice offered him a private audition, which he declined.
“God told me that wasn’t going to be my story,” Lake said.
Lake continued to reflect on how God has used both him and Bodie in different ways to elicit worship through “Gratitude”.
“[Bodie was] putting [the 6-8 million people watching]... into an atmosphere of praise and worship, and God didn’t need me to do it,” Lake reflected.
Lake went on to embrace how his story has seemed to come full circle in this moment and thanked Bodie for his song selection.
“Obviously I am very grateful for my story and am very grateful for Bodie for choosing that song and choosing to sing it, but not just sing the song, but for what he just released over our nation.”
While Bodie placed second this season of The Voice, his performances frequently moved coaches Blake Shelton, John Legend, Camila Cabello, and Gwen Stefani to tears, with his rendition of “Gratitude” being no exception.
“Thank you, Bodie, for choosing to sing that song. I’m very grateful,” Lake concluded.
