The artist describes her early affinity for music, saying, “I basically came out of the womb singing. Music and creative expression as a whole has always been my predominant space to process through my feelings, process through my experiences. I grew up in a very chaotic and unstable and broken environment, and music for me was always my safe place. I got radically saved as a teenager at 13 years old. Music was my thing, and so naturally when I became a believer, that very easily transitioned into leading worship.”
She credits much of her current self to the people who came around her during that time, loving and guiding her through the early years of her faith journey. For Davy, worship is all about stripping away the noise of our lives and even our own minds, fully focusing on who God is. Worship is her unique place to have a real, heart-changing conversation with God by connecting with Him in individual and intimate ways.
In her worship, Davy allows herself to fully open every door of her heart to the Lord, holding nothing back from Him in those moments. “I want to just live a life of worship. God is not segmented into compartments, He relates to us with His whole being, and I want to relate to Him with my whole being. That encompasses my crises of faith, and my doubt, and my frustration, and my anger, all of it.”
Flowers described to us the way that intentionality and structure play a big role in her daily prayers and moments of connection with God. “Whatever I’m doing, I just kind of pause and say, ‘I’m going to take 15 minutes to set my eyes on God and remind my soul why I’m living, why I’m breathing, why I’m moving, just the purpose of every effort of my heart. In simplicity, it’s just stopping throughout the day in intentional ways to connect with the Lord through His Word and through prayer. And I have a structure for that. About a week out in advance, I’ve planned what it’s going to look like.”

Davy recalled moments in her career where she struggled with impostor syndrome, battling against such thoughts by constantly returning to God’s calling for her life. Her strategy for combating these thoughts is to go back to the basics. No matter what fears or doubts might arise in her mind, she always returns to the gospel, declaring Jesus’ innate love over herself, and remembering why she has been called to sing The Lord’s praise in front of an audience.
When asked about the writing process for her hit song, “Oh But God,” Davy describes, “I was in Nashville for a songwriting trip, and I woke up that morning in my hotel. I was just sitting there journaling, and just the melody of the chorus and the words just popped into my head. I wasn’t straining or trying, and God was just like, ‘I’m going to give you a song in this moment.’" Bringing the first half of the song into her co-writing session that day, Flowers felt a unique power working in and through the creation process.
“Music and songwriting to me is so miraculous because it’s just like, ‘there was nothing and now there’s something.’” Davy says that her upcoming release will be a live worship recording. “I want to capture an experience. I’m trying to write all songs that are God-centered, to Jesus, about Jesus, highlighting the person and works of Jesus, from creation to new creation and everything in between.” The artist says that the album is currently “in the writing phase." We were eager to learn when we could expect this new album, but as for now, Davy only knows that she plans to release the live album sometime in 2024.
On the subject of her outreach endeavors, Davy was eager to share about her efforts with the Worship Initiative and the time she is currently spending with this community of worshippers in Dallas, Texas. Davy, alongside the Worship Initiative, is hard at work, creating resources for local church worship leaders and musicians, and sharing them through their online subscription. As a resident artist with this collective, Davy is also simultaneously working to grow her own music, crafting new ways to give praise to the Lord, and traveling the world all the while.
On a final, more personal note, Davy shares some things that most people might not know about her. “I am, like, a musical theater nerd. I love musical theater and I love to dance, and I love to act. Ragtime is a classic, I love the classics.” Davy also shares that one of her most recent songs she has had on repeat for the last few days is “You Remain” by Todd Galberth. We are excited to hear how Davy’s music is influenced by songs like this, and are curious if a collaboration between these artists could be possible in the near future.
