"All praise to the Lord most high
All praise to the One who saved my life
All praise to Jesus Christ
High King of Heaven"
We often think of royalty as being far away or high above us. A king is typically thought to sit in a tower high above the people he rules. With Jesus, we can know a king who stays closer than a brother. The separation of royalty is left behind with Christ. No longer do we have to think of our King as being separate and distant. This sentiment is echoed in Josh Baldwin's “My King Forever”. In this song, the majesty of Jesus’ rule is proclaimed along with His amazing works. As the days go by, we must not forget about the close companionship we can have with the Lord of our lives.

“My King Forever” begins with a confident bass riff, which brings a rustic, rock-worship sound into the rest of the song. Josh Baldwin pronounces praise to the ruler of Heaven with abandon, and lays more and more of his heart at Jesus’ feet as the song progresses. This song reminds us that Jesus serves as our faithful friend, caring king, and loving creator all-in-one.
Through this song, we are reminded of the different aspects of our relationship with Jesus. Not only is Christ our shepherd and loving caretaker, He is also our majestic, glorious king. Throughout our lives, we can run to Jesus when we are hurting, and we must also remember to surrender to His authority over our lives. Only by following the guidance of Christ can we hope to live our lives to the fullest.
“My King Forever” was released in April 2020 as a part of Josh Baldwin’s first live EP, “Live at Church”. On his long walk of faith in Jesus, Josh Baldwin says, “it’s been so good to be able to look back and see how faithful the Lord has been. I've seen him pull me out of situations and I've seen him restore my family.”
